The heads of government of Russia and China will discuss the implementation of the Aurora operating system on Huawei devices. This was stated by deputy head of the Ministry of Communications Mikhail Mamonov, writes TASS.
“We will definitely discuss this [the introduction of the Aurora OS on Huawei gadgets] in September with Chinese colleagues. First, I will discuss as a co-chair of the ICT working group, then Deputy Prime Minister Maxim Akimov as a co-chair of the working group to prepare for the meeting of the heads of government. Of course, we will bring this issue to the draft agenda of their meeting, ”Mamonov specified.
According to him, the installation of Aurora on Huawei devices may interest civil servants of the BRICS countries or Russia and China. Earlier in Russia, plans were already announced for the purchase of 360,000 Huawei tablets by August 1, 2020 to install Auroras on them and to conduct a national census using them.
In late August, it was reported that the Russian Ministry of Finance refused to allocate money for the purchase of smartphones on the Aurora operating system for officials. According to several sources, several departments have questions about the transfer of officials and employees of state-owned companies to smartphones with the domestic OS, and this requires too much cost. Rostelecom planned to introduce a tariff of 16.6 thousand rubles for a comprehensive service.
At the same time, Google representatives confirmed that the new Huawei devices will come with a "stripped down" version of Android, on which there will be no services of the American corporation. Among them are Google search engine, Gmail email client, Google Play application store and other programs.
