The rattling corvette under construction will be equipped with the latest Zircon hypersonic missiles. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin, writes TASS.
The head of state visited the Baltic shipyard and boarded the ship under construction. Putin examined his premises and familiarized himself with weapons and equipment systems. The tour was conducted by the captain of the second rank Roman Dovgailov, who talked about the features of controlling the ship.
Dovgailov drew the president’s attention to the nose of the corvette, where the launch containers of the Caliber rockets are now located, noting that in the future Zircon could be placed there. “Zircon will definitely be,” Putin said, addressing the head of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Sergei Shoigu. He in turn nodded his head.
The rattling corvette of project 20385 was developed by the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau. The multi-purpose corvettes of this project are designed to detect and destroy enemy submarines and surface ships, to ensure landing, guard the coastal zone, and escort other ships. The ships will be equipped with artillery, missile, anti-submarine, sonar and radar systems.
In February, Vladimir Putin revealed the characteristics of the Zircon hypersonic missile, "capable of hitting both sea and land targets." According to the head of state, she will have a speed of nine Mach numbers and a flight range of more than a thousand kilometers. Such weapons will be received by surface and underwater ships under construction and under construction, including those created under Caliber missiles.
In the same month, the Russia-1 television channel in the Vesti Nedeli program announced that five military decision-making centers in the United States could become the goals of the Zircons in the event of a Moscow threat from Washington.
