Russia has found a replacement for the Su-57

Heavy strike reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) S-70 “Okhotnik” can become a full-fledged replacement for combat aircraft, Izvestia writes.

According to the newspaper, the Ministry of Defense decided to create one detachment of such UAVs in the Western and Southern military districts (ZVO and YuVO) in 2024, which would allow not to expose the crews of the Aerospace Forces (VKS) to unnecessary risk. The publication assures that in conditions of large-scale hostilities S-70 "Hunter" can completely replace military aircraft.

According to military expert Anton Lavrov, such an UAV is a “big war drone” designed to break through the enemy’s air defense.

In August, at the International Aviation and Space Salon 2019 (MAKS-2019), Sukhoi introduced the Okhotnik S-70 model, which differs from the flight test being tested by the presence of a flat nozzle.

In the same month, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said that the S-70 “Okhotnik” tests will take place in the next two to three years, and after the 2024th UAV “will go into series”.

On August 3, it became known about the first flight of this UAV.

In February, military expert Pyotr Butovsky allowed the take-off weight of the S-70 Okhotnik to be 25 tons, of which 2.8 tons will be used, the wing span of the UAV will be 19 meters, the length of the vehicle is 14 meters, and at low altitude, the drone should be capable of speeds of 1.4 thousand kilometers per hour, and the flight range of the car will be 5 thousand kilometers.

In January, a source said that the S-70 Okhotnik systems were tested on the Su-57.

In July 2018, this UAV was named part of the artificial intelligence (AI) prototype of the sixth generation fighter.
