In Turkey, the S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile systems (SAM) can “deacralize” fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II fighters, the Russian Defense Ministry reports to RIA Novosti.
"The thrill and excitement of the Pentagon over the probable desacralization of F-35 fighters by Turkish S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems is not unfounded," the military department said.
It also notes that fifth-generation fighter aircraft F-22 Raptor and F-35 Lightning II of American manufacture are "invisible" only to US taxpayers and foreign buyers.
In July, Defense News proposed several ways to simultaneously use Turkey's S-400 Triumph and F-35 Lightning II.
The agreement on the supply to Ankara of four Russian-made S-400 Triumph divisions was concluded in September 2017. The contract value amounted to 2.5 billion dollars, half of which will be covered by the Russian loan. The supply of air defense systems to Turkey began in July 2019. Due to concerns over the S-400 Triumph of a data leak revealing the capabilities of the F-35 Lightning II, Washington suspended the supply of such aircraft to Ankara. In total, Turkey was supposed to get more than a hundred American fifth-generation fighters.
