The Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile system (SAM) was first deployed outside of Russia for training: it, as well as the Pantsir-S1 missile-cannon system (SAM), was transferred to Serbia. It is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Defense.
Air defense systems will take part in joint exercises between Russia and Serbia as part of the second stage of the Slavic Shield – 2019, which will last until October 29. The complexes are deployed at the Bataynitsa airbase to test the defense of the territory. A series of tasks will be performed to detect, maintain, classify and destroy the forces of a conditional enemy.
The first stage of the Russian-Serbian exercises “Slavic shield – 2019” was held at the 42nd training center for combat training of anti-aircraft missile forces at the Ashuluk training ground (Astrakhan region).
In September of this year, Russia deployed the S-400 on the Novaya Zemlya archipelago (Arctic). The anti-aircraft missile regiment of air defense located on Yuzhny Island was re-equipped with new air defense systems that replaced the obsolete S-300 Favorit.
This is not the first deployment of the S-400 abroad as a whole: earlier they were transferred to Syria, where they were put on combat duty near the Khmeimim air base.
