Turkish military reinforced tanks with flimsy armor and sent to fight in Syria

The Turkish military are trying to strengthen their armored vehicles involved in the fighting in Syria, but so far their attempts have not been entirely effective. On Friday, October 18, reports "RG: Russian weapons."

In particular, the publication drew attention to the photographs published on Twitter, which depict US-made M60A3 tanks in service with Turkey. As can be seen in the pictures, cumulative screens are installed on the combat vehicles, but they look flimsy and cover only part of the tower.

The Turkish military began to install similar protective lattices on the ACV-15 infantry fighting vehicles (BMPs), which were repeatedly criticized for their low survivability. “These gratings … are unlikely to be able to effectively neutralize RPG rocket-propelled grenades, not to mention guided missiles,” says RG: Russian Weapons.

According to the publication, Turkish troops have already suffered some losses. So, the Kurds managed to destroy the armored car Kirpi – it completely burned out and cannot be restored. It is also known that a few days ago the Turkish army lost another combat vehicle – presumably, the Leopard 2A4 tank, which is being delivered from Germany.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced the start of a military operation in Syria on the afternoon of October 9. She received the name "Source of Peace." Its goal is the fight against the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK, banned in Turkey as a terrorist) and the Islamic State terrorist group (banned in Russia), as well as the creation of a security zone along the entire border.
