The U.S. Air Force Testing Center (U.S. Air Force) uploaded a video of a missile sled on YouTube that managed to reach a speed of Mach 8.6 (10,620 kilometers per hour) on a track located at Holloman Air Base (New Mexico).
Details of the test are not reported. According to The Drive, the airbase "could test almost any component that is needed to accelerate and travel at hypersonic speeds."
In August, US companies Lockheed Martin, Boeing, and Raytheon received a US Department of Defense missile defense (ABM) contract to develop concepts for hypersonic missile interceptors.
In July, Aviation Week reported that the United States, in addition to seven unveiled hypersonic weapon projects, is working on two similar classified programs.
